Ex-Celtic ace pens bumper Sunderland contract

Sunderland forward Patrick Roberts has signed a new deal to keep him at the club until the summer of 2026.

Roberts was originally signed by the Black Cats in January 2022 on a six-month contract, with an additional year option. Roberts was previously at Manchester City.

Southampton had expressed interest in Roberts during the summer, but he chose to commit to Sunderland for the foreseeable future rather than expire his contract.

On the club’s official website, the 26-year-old stated, “I’ve loved every moment of being here and I’m delighted to get the deal done.”

“So far, the journey has been enjoyable and the supporters have been great. I hope that continues.”

“Sunderland is a massive team with enormous standards. I’m excited for our upcoming years together, and I hope we continue to have success along the road.

Roberts, who was instrumental in Sunderland’s 2022 promotion from Sky Bet League One, has made 79 appearances for the team across all competitions, tallying seven goals.
