Hugh Keevins blasts Celtic conspiracy theory about Rangers as Rodgers sack verdict’

Hugh Keevins would be “amazed” if Brendan Rodgers was Celtic boss next season while rubbishing suggestions that Hearts lay down for Rangers.

Following the Hoops’ 3-1 victory over Motherwell on February 25, Celtics manager Brendan Rodgers has been under fire for calling BBC Scotland’s Jane Lewis a “good girl.”

Keevins believes that this most recent incident will affect Brendan Rodgers’ future plans. He wrote in the Daily Record on March 3rd, “I would be amazed if (Brendan) Rodgers is still Celtic’s manager at the start of next season, whether or not he wins the league title in May.”

“You leave places where you’re unwanted and such. The boss will be somewhat relieved to lose himself in some good ol’ fashioned paranoia today, but we’ll have to wait and see.

“Fans always find solace in conspiracy theories. It diverts their attention from reality.

They can now try their hardest against green-and-white hoops and indulge in the classic hoax about Hearts lying down to Rangers. It doesn’t matter to Rodgers at all. Facing the reality that Celtic is barely hanging on to the title race is his greatest obstacle.

Scottish Premiership title race between Rangers and Celtic will go down to the wire

Even though it gives them some solace, Celtic supporters’ desire to think that Hearts gave up for Rangers isn’t really significant in the big picture.

The Glasgow giants are expected to compete in one of the closest title battles in recent memory, and Philippe Clement will be eager to capitalise on the Rodgers controversy, which appears to have the potential to divert attention away from the Hoops.

On Saturday, March 2, the Gers lost 2-1 to Motherwell at Ibrox, which was a major blow and will have provided Celtic with a lot of motivation.

Rangers held the title after reaching the pinnacle of the Scottish Premiership, but the tide has since turned.

As he attempts to lead Celtic to victory, Rodgers will be eager to put his off-field problems behind him and focus on his play on the pitch. If he does this, Rangers supporters will be hoping that Keevins is correct when he says the 51-year-old will be leaving the team at the end of the campaign.

In other Rangers news, David Edgar was furious following what he called a “shocker” incident in the Motherwell loss.
