Maccabi Petah Tikva president Avi Luzon didn’t hold back on the Parkhead support with Abada nearing a move to Charlotte FC.
Liel Abada’s former president claims the winger was left with no choice but to leave Celtic – as he sensationally claimed the fans had treated him “disgustingly.”
Avi Luzon is the head honcho at Abada’s former club Maccabi Petah Tikva and is eyeing a bumper payday with the wide man inching towards a £10millon move to Charlotte FC. The Scottish Premiership champions and the Major League Soccer side are ironing out the final details before the Israel international jets off to take one of the designated player spots at his new club
Due to personal concerns and the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East, Brendan Rodgers left the player off the squad for the victory over Hibs last month. Since then, he hasn’t played. Abada’s native country is putting pressure on him, thus some of the Celtic support have added to the problem by flying flags and demonstrating their support for Palestine.
In an interview with Sport 5, Luzon attempted to shift the blame back onto the Celtic supporters, even though Rodgers had earlier refuted claims in Israel that claimed Abada had been mistreated in the street during the crisis despite their frequent conversations.
When questioned about the move, the club president stated: “Liel Abada felt really horrible about everything that was going on, including the outrage of the people on the street towards him – multiple times. He was treated horribly by the fans, who gave him no other option.
“I’m glad he’s settled in a nice area. His contract was upgraded with a double salary in the summer because Brendan Rodgers wanted him. Therefore, at the start of the season, they did want him. It wasn’t pleasant for Liel to feel welcomed and the nasty looks she received.”
