Rodgers targets Bologna striker is likely to move’

Celtic are set to recruit Nicolas Kuhn as their first signing of the winter window, but Brendan Rodgers may not be finished yet.

Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Vienna is set to join the January transfer market at the midway mark. A quick winger, he is about to complete a physical in London, and a £3 million deal for a four-and-a-half-year contract may be completed as soon as today if all goes well. He would join Luis Palma, Daizen Maeda, Marco Tilio, Yang, and Mikey Johnston on the flanks, with manager Rodgers looking for two more players.

On social media, the job of custodian has been widely discussed. But the Irishman’s next targets are a left-back and a striker, potentially on loan. Alexandro Bernabei has not given enough competition for Greg Taylor at full-back, and Kyogo is backed up in attack by Celtic’s natural number nine, Oh, who is currently in the Asian Cup.

Mathias Kvistgaarden of Brondby could be one to watch. He has been on the radar since the summer transfer window, but the Scottish Sun claims “his club are holding out for top dollar.” A sum in the range of £8 million may be required to entice the Danes to sell up.

Sydney van Hooijdonk, the son of Hoops star Pierre, is another player connected with Bologna, where opportunities are limited this season. He started the weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Cagliari, but told DAZN ahead of the game that exit rumours will continue until the end of January: “What about my future?” I’m not sure; the most important thing to me right now is this match, but I know there’s been a lot of buzz about it.

“It will most likely be like this in the next weeks, but I am not focusing on myself because this is my opportunity. I now want to score and win. Then we’ll see how football goes; in football, everything changes quickly.”

Exits are also expected in Glasgow’s east end. Kwon has already departed on loan to St Mirren, but Gustaf Lagerbielke is still looking for a new team, despite Italian interest. Another two might be travelling to other Scottish sites.

According to Record Sport, Motherwell have made a move to sign Adam Montgomery after he was returned from a loan spell at League One club Fleetwood Town south of the border. Meanwhile, MacKenzie Carse is poised to join Queen’s Park in the Scottish Championship, according to Football Scotland’s report.
