Rodgers tempers Celtic transfer expectations in ‘one or two’ assertion’

The manager had previously told how he wanted four new bodies in the door but that may have changed

Brendan Rodgers has tempered Celtic fan expectations for the January transfer window as he suggested they could sign “one or two”.

The Hoops manager had previously suggested that he was on the lookout for as many as four new “quality” signings in the door this month with the title race well and truly on. But now that Kyogo has been left out of Japan’s Asian Cup squad and an eight point lead has been established in the Premiership over Rangers, Rodgers may have calmed his demands for fresh bodies in the door.

The team is still looking for a striker and a left-back, but a wide player and a goal-scoring midfielder would be excellent. However, the manager has moved to inform supporters that there may be less business done this month than anticipated.

”The players will get a little bit of time – they need that. They’ll have a break to maybe spend a wee bit of time with their families,” he said.

“They’ll have some work they need to do while they’re away but it’s a good chance to reset before going again. We have a spell without any games before we play in the Scottish Cup. So we can do a lot of work in that period.

“We’ll hopefully have some of the injured players back, as well as one or two newcomers.” Then we press on for the rest of the season. It’s a pity there will be no winter break next season.

“I think if you look at players all over the country, especially up here, you can see the amount of injuries.” This is especially true when playing European football.

“The players aren’t robots, but it’s assumed that they are.” But we’ll definitely take the break this season and make the most of the time.
