The Hoops were blown away in the competition and Jordan pulled up the finances
Simon Jordan believes Celtic must be more competitive in the Champions League because they’ve got the cash to invest to ensure they can be.
The talkSPORT pundit reckons the Hoops produced yet another poor showing in their group stage against the likes of Feyenoord and Lazio, clubs they should be competing against much stronger. Celts do have cash in their coffers to spend if they really want to make inroads in Europe but Jordan insists the manager has perhaps not been backed as well as he or fans would have liked this summer.
The former Crystal Palace owner also suggested that even Ange Postecoglou could not improve their fortunes at the top table of European football and that could be indicative of a larger issue.
“They spent €22million in the transfer window this year,” Jordan began. “That was the Celtic spend, they sold €30-odd million worth of players, so they sold more than they brought in. With the turnover they’ve got, I would expect Celtic to be more competitive in Europe than they currently have been in the last two seasons.
“They haven’t spent a great deal of money – give us more money is what he (Rodgers) is saying. If you are spending £20million a season and you are selling £30-odd million worth of players, then ‘if you want me to be more successful in Europe’. I would say ‘be a better coach’.
“But notwithstanding that, be a better coach and, at the same time, be given a little bit more ammunition. One coach, albeit he (Postecoglou) had gone a bit off the boil, but everyone loves, has produced the same rubbish outcome.”
