The board sufficiently backed Rodgers since he returned’

Tony Haggerty joined Ryan McGinlay for Thursday’s edition of The Celtic Way’s morning briefing on January 25th.

On today’s episode, the duo discussed recent links between Matt O’Riley and Atletico Madrid, with the Spanish club reportedly interested in Celtic’s standout player this season. After impressing against Diego Simeone’s side in the Champions League this season, the La Liga giants have reportedly expressed an interest in the Danish international.

Sky Sports said that the probable move would be an initial loan with a mandatory buy clause added at the conclusion of the season. Celtic have since rejected the idea of losing their top performer, but Tony and Ryan agreed that the vultures will continue to circle because of O’Riley’s outstanding performances this season. Unfortunately, they both agreed that a move in the summer would benefit both parties, given Celtic’s lack of time this month to find and bring in a successor.

Also on the show, the two discussed Celtic’s dearth of incomings this month, with the transfer window closing in less than a week. So far, only Rapid Vienna winger Nicolas Kühn has joined the club, with negotiations for a left-back and backup striker still ongoing. Has Brendan Rodgers received sufficient support since his remarkable return to the club? Will Celtic be able to sweep the decks of deadwood in and around the squad? Time will tell on each of these topics.

Finally, on the second anniversary of his death, Tony reflected on the Dutch manager’s brief but important tenure with the club during the 1997/98 season. From signing Henrik Larsson and Paul Lambert to drastically reducing the On the season’s final day, Tony waxes poetic about Jansen’s legacy at the club.
