The real reason Celtic didn’t sign 23-year-old striker in the January window’

The majority of the speculation surrounded Celtic and their apparent pursuit of Bologna striker, Sydney van Hooijdonk.

Since November of last year, the youthful Dutch striker has been connected to the Hoops. However, in spite of all the January whispers, van Hooijdonk completed his move to Norwich City when Brendan Rodgers signed Adam Iadah on loan.

It is reasonable to say that this decision truly perplexed the Celtic supporters, particularly in light of rumours circulating that van Hooijdonk’s camp was holding out for Celtic to initiate contact.

In an attempt to set the record straight, Sky Sports writer Anthony Joseph reveals the true reason why Celtic passed on signing the talented young striker, and it might not sit well with the Hoops fan base.

The circumstances surrounding that were somewhat humorous in terms of how Sydney van Hooijdnk, who has been quoted in Italy as saying that they were waiting for Celtic to come in.

“They [Bologna] delayed approaches from other clubs, when Bologna were getting approaches from other clubs.

“But Celtic made no contact. My understanding is Celtic didn’t come in with any approach for Sydney van Hooijdonk in the January window.

Celtic will have justifications for not pursuing him. It’s possible that interest just faded over time. Although I’m not positive, it appears to be the case.

That’s it, then. Fabrizio Romano stated that Celtic coveted the 23-year-old, but the club never contacted him in spite of all the rumours and conjecture.

It remains to be seen if signing Idah was a better choice in the end. The Norwich player, who is on loan, made a strong Celtic start in their 1-1 draw with Aberdeen and appears to be a promising young player.

In other news, “Electric”—Celtic announced they have a “game changer” after the 21-year-old made a significant impression while playing for his country.
