Jota, a former Celtic winger, is allegedly free to depart Al Ittihad in January following a difficult period in Saudi Arabia. The Portuguese winger joined in a move worth £25 million, but things have altered dramatically, and the tricky attacker is now on the outskirts of Jeddah.
Now, transfer journalist Rudy Galetti has told his 100,000 Twitter/X followers that three teams have inquired about Jota’s availability during the transfer window.
Galetti continued the thread saying that the management at Al Ittihad have decided that they will part ways with Jota, if they can sign a replacement winger.
Al Ettifaq, owned by Steven Gerrard, is said to be interested in the former Celtic player; nevertheless, Galetti does not identify two other teams. Could one of them be Celtic?
Brendan Rodgers did not get the opportunity to work with Jota because the arrangement to transfer him to the Saudi League was already in the works when the Irishman returned to Paradise. However, he did mention the player’s quality.
In 83 games for Celtic, Jota has 28 goals and 26 assists. Celtic fans admire the Portuguese great, and if there was a chance of his return, we would gladly accept it. Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham Hotspur have also been connected, and you would expect a few clubs to be interested in bringing him in from the cold.
Celtic are looking for quality, and Jota could fit that bill provided the finances work out. Clearly, Al Ittihad must be aware that they will not receive much of their summer investment back for the winger, but if a loan-to-buy agreement could be reached, the player would likely welcome the opportunity to return to Glasgow
Curiously, Celtic have been associated with a few wingers in recent weeks, including Rapid Vienna’s Nikolas Kühn, although the speculation has subsided in recent days.
Hopefully, the ongoing linkages back to Celtic mean something.
