Transfer boost for Celtic as target ‘ready to leave’

Brendan Rodgers’ side return to action this weekend when they face Highland League side Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup.

Celtic fans had to wait a few weeks for their first signing of the January transfer window but they finally have their man following the arrival of German winger Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Wien for a reported fee of £3 million.

The Hoops are also though to be in the market for more reinforcements this month with another striker and a right back expected to be the next areas that Brendan Rodgers looks to address. As well as those positions, there has been plenty of speculation around goalkeepers who could be headed to Celtic Park this month.

According to reports, the Hoops have gained significant advantage in this regard as one of the players they have been linked to is reportedly’ready to leave’ for his current club. Nevertheless, it appears that the summer window will be used rather than this month, which may not present too much of a challenge for the Scottish champions given that Joe Hart is still under contract for the remainder of the campaign.

Caoimhin Kelleher, a stopper for Liverpool, has been linked to Celtic this month. According to Football Insider, the Republic of Ireland stopper is eager to leave Anfield. The 25-year-old reportedly wants to leave the Merseyside club in order to get more regular playing time elsewhere.

This latest development will be welcomed by Celtic supporters who want to see the Cork-born, 11-time international play for the Scottish champions. The news comes after the initial blow that Reds manager Jurgen Klopp was reportedly unwilling to let the backup keeper leave this month. Since he has a contract that expires in June 2026, Celtic will still have two years left on it come summertime, so if they decide to sign him, it could still cost them a sizable transfer fee.
