Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic January transfer priority revealed

With Nicolas Kuhn in Glasgow to complete his transfer to Celtic, the club’s attention has now turned to Brendan Rodgers’ next signing priority.

The German winger completed his medical ahead of the switch from Rapid Vienna yesterday. This was carried out in London before he travelled north to finalise a long-term deal at the Scottish champions.

It’s believed the Hoops will pay around £3m plus add-ons for the 24-year-old, who played for Ajax and Bayern Munich in his youth days.

Kuhn could be available in time to play some part in Sunday’s Scottish Cup fourth-round tie against Highland League minnows Buckie Thistle.

Brendan Rodgers, who has been more involved in the recruitment process this January, is trying to sign a striker to lessen the load on Kyogo up top now that the winger is practically in the building.

According to The Daily Record, this is now his top priority. The club’s hiring team, headed by Mark Lawwell, is looking into a number of loan possibilities.

Numerous strikers from Premier League teams have been investigated.

If a deal to sign a striker was right this month, Celtic would buy, but a loan is the more likely course of action.

With Oh and Daizen Maeda currently away for Asian Cup duty with South Korea and Japan, respectively, Kyogo is the only recognised striker for the club.

The attacking pair’s international assignment may keep them away until February, contingent on how well their country performs.

Apart from a striker, Rodgers is also keeping a close eye on a left-back, with Alexandro Bernabei reportedly available should any offers come in.
