Sky Sports: European club make £4m bid to sign Celtic player
Celtic transfer rumours
The Hoops and Brendan Rodgers can look to enhance their squad following another Scottish Premiership title victory last season, as the transfer window officially opens today.
With Joe Hart having retired, Celtic Park may see a lot of change as a new custodian is needed to take his place. In February of last year, Rodgers acknowledged that the team may be bold in their acquisitions.
“I would go with supporters thinking we could maybe be a little bit braver in terms of bringing in another level of player. But that’s up to me to try and fix that over the course of my time here. You look at the strategy here and you have to be careful because in some ways it has worked. You bring in players for a minimal fee and then they go out and make the club a lot of money.
“What I want to hopefully balance in my time here is that we can still do that, because it is an important part of the modern game. But we also want to be brave enough to hang our hat on a ready-made player.”
But in addition to any new players arriving, Parkhead may also have to sell. Matt O’Riley, a standout midfield player, is still drawing interest, and centre back Gustaf Lagerbielke is the target of an offer from Lecce, an Italian club. In addition, KRC Genk has made a proposal for Hyeon-gyu Oh, a striker, and the Hoops have received more information about a potential departure.
Hyeon-gyu Oh transfer latest
Journalist Anthony Joseph of Sky Sports claims that Oh has made Celtic an offer worth approximately £4 million; negotiations are still going on, and the player is eager to get back to regular action.
Since it has been reported that Oh and Genk have reached personal terms, it appears that Celtic will turn a profit on the £2.5 million they paid Suwon Samsung Bluewings for the forward the previous season.
In just 722 minutes of football play the previous season, the 23-year-old scored five goals in 22 games. Oh is set to depart Glasgow having scored 12 goals in 47 games and taken home five major awards.
