Lecce may rekindle their interest in Celtic defender Gustaf Lagerbielke during the summer transfer window, according to Italian attorney Daniele Piraino.
During the winter transfer window, Lagerbielke nearly left Celtic and was predicted to sign with Lecce, an Italian team.
The two teams had an agreement in place, and towards the close of the transfer window, the defender was anticipated to fly to Italy to finalise the transaction.
However, Celtic chose last week to thwart the Swedish defender’s transfer to Italy due to new injury concerns in their back. Participating in the negotiations, Piraino acknowledged that the agreement was almost finalised until Celtic made the decision to obstruct the transfer.
He suggested that since Lagerbielke was willing to travel to Italy and take a pay cut, Lecce should think about rekindling their interest in him.
“The boy was already on his way to Lecce with the consent of Celtic and he would have reduced his salary to go and play for Lecce,” Piraino told the Italian publication Tutto Mercato.
“In the end, the Scottish club chose to block everything since one of their teammates got hurt.
“Perhaps we should discuss it again in July.”
Lagerbielke has only played a supporting role for Celtic and may be free to depart during the summer transfer window.
