Celtic’s hopes of landing Real Madrid shotstopper Andriy Lunin could become much clearer next month.

The Ukrainian goalkeeper was linked with a move to Parkhead in the summer and is thought to feature on a list of potential long-term replacements for Joe Hart. But any departure from the Bernabeu could depend upon whether or not he’ll be handed the gloves by boss Carlo Ancelotti for the second part of the season.

With Kepa Arrizabalaga, the custodian on loan from Real Madrid, sidelined by injury for the past few months, the 24-year-old has performed admirably in goal. Additionally, Kepa and Lunin are vying for the No. 1 jersey because Thibaut Courtois, the first choice, is probably going to miss the entire campaign while recovering from an ACL injury.
Lunin, who has an expiring contract with the Spanish powerhouses, would prefer to remain there, but he will undoubtedly attract interest from other teams as he looks for increased playing time. Beginning on January 1, he will be able to hold pre-contract negotiations with other teams in hopes of signing a free transfer in the summer.

The 36-year-old Hart of the Hoops is anticipated to end his three-year tenure in Glasgow in May as Brendan Rodgers is actively seeking a new custodian. Even though Lunin would be a good fit, Ancelotti’s choice for 2024 may have an impact on his future.
