Turnbull discusses his contract ending in the summer of next year, and Rangers manager Clement analyses Sunday’s victory over Hearts.
This Monday morning, we examine some of the top stories that are making the back pages.
David Turnbull, a midfielder for Celtic, said he is not thinking about his contract status. After Saturday’s 3-0 victory against Ross County, the 24-year-old was questioned about his position and responded, “To be honest, I just leave it to the club and those that are involved with it.” His current contract expires at the end of the current campaign. I simply try to chat on the pitch, concentrate on my own game, and try not to think about it too much right now. It’s easy to overthink things in life, particularly in football. All you have to do is concentrate on one game at a time. There are a tonne of games coming up quickly, so just concentrate on
During their Viaplay Cup semifinal matchup over the weekend, Dylan Vente, a player for Hibs, is thought by Aberdeen goalkeeper Kelle Roos to have attempted to purchase a penalty. After being challenged by the Dons player, the Hibees forward went down, but Roos stated, “I think I should have just tackled the ball because it was hard to keep it in play.” He only attempted to purchase one, though, and I was never close to his feet. He caught the ball, but I didn’t catch any of him in the process. I told him, “You’ve tried to do me in,” since he is Dutch. I knew it, too.
Lawrence Shankland, the captain and striker for Hearts, feels that Rangers’ penalty call in yesterday’s Viaplay Cup semifinal was “soft.” On minute fifty, James Tavernier scored from the penalty spot after custodian Zander Clark of the Jambos was found to have fouled Danilo. According to Shankland, “I felt it was soft.” Though I haven’t watched it again, I believed Danilo was sort of heading down and reaching out to Zander (Clark). I’m not sure if Zander’s claim that they come together when he extends his arms was sufficient to justify the punishment. That may have also been soft, but I haven’t seen ours either.”
The Rangers manager, Philippe Clement, is amused by the way the team’s European roster is assembled. Following their victory against Hearts to advance to the Viaplay Cup final, the Belgian manager stated, “On Thursday [against Sparta Prague in the Europa League], we have a really big game.” Ridvan Yilmaz and Leon Balogun had been left out by former manager Michael Beale. We still lack a few players, as well as those that I am unable to choose from since they are not on the European list, which I did not create at the start of the season. Once more, it’s a puzzle, and I anticipate that everyone will place first because of how difficult the game will be. We must keep up our current efforts with the
Additionally, Clement has provided an explanation for the substitution of playmaker Todd Cantwell for Scott Wright during the halftime of the Hearts game. After Cantwell received a booking, Clement remarked, “It was more of a tactical one, and I don’t want to take any chances with his yellow card.” We know Scott has energy, so I wanted to rotate the two of them, just like I did the past few weeks, because I want new guys who can play both defence and direction. Thus, it was nothing special—just a tactical one.”
