According to speculations, Sydney van Hooijdonk may follow in his father’s footsteps and use Celtic colours.
Many Bhoys fans would be nostalgic to see another van Hooijdonk at Parkhead, as he is the son of club icon Pierre.
The 23-year-old has spoken about his future and made some interesting comments, according to The Daily Record.
Sydney van Hooijdonk has possibly hinted that a January move could be feasible because he hasn’t ruled anything out and added ‘I know that there has been a lot of speculation about it’.
Operating as a striker, he would tick the box for Brendan Rodgers to bring in another number nine, which has sparked much controversy.
The 23-year-old recently began for Bologna in a 2-1 loss to Cagliari, but he has only started four games in total across all competitions.
Sydney van Hooijdonk to Celtic
“What about my future?” I’m not sure, for me now the most important thing is this match, but I know there has been a lot of chatter about it,” remarked van Hooijdonk.
“It will probably stay like this for the next three weeks, but I’m not focusing on myself because this is my chance. I now want to score and win. Then we’ll see how football goes; in football, everything changes quickly.”
Celtic’s striker talk
Celtic is expanding its attacking line with the anticipated arrival of Nicolas Kuhn.
The odd part about this is that he is a winger, so it has to be questioned whether that is an area that needs more numbers because it is already pretty packed.
The same may be stated of the number nine. Yes, Kyogo Furuhashi isn’t putting up enormous numbers, but like he showed against the Rangers, he steps up in important occasions.
Is Van Hooijdonk going to take his place? No. However, many would debate about Hyeongyu Oh, who is now on international duty.
But what needs to be recalled about the South Korean star is that he is only 22 years old and playing as a backup, so patience and empathy are needed in that aspect.
