Celtic to get Liverpool star as Rangers opt for Leeds forward’

The latest transfer headlines as Celtic and Rangers try to do business during the January window

Celtic and Rangers have had a rare weekend off as the Premiership takes a two-week holiday. The two clubs are competing for the division’s top spot, and both are aware that what they do in the January transfer window might be crucial in the title fight.

Both and Rangers are linked with fresh signings, while players have also been linked away as the transfer market progresses. Here, GlasgowWorld takes a look at some of the rumours going around today as the two clubs prepare to return to action.

Liverpool man wanted

Caoimhin Kelleher, a Liverpool custodian, is allegedly on Brenden Rodgers’ list of transfer objectives at Celtic. That’s according to Alan Nixon, who thinks the Bhoys may likely regard Kelleher as a potential alternative amid indications the Reds’ number two would want to establish himself away from Anfield.

Kelleher is currently ranked behind Alisson in the Liverpool pecking order, and that appears unlikely to change very soon, with the Merseyside club thought to be satisfied with their choices in goal. However, if Kelleher seeks a transfer away, Celtic could be poised to pounce on the Republic of Ireland international.

Rodgers already has Joe Hart at his disposal, and Scott Bain and Benjamin Siegrist offer depth at the position.

Gelhardt competition emerges

Both Rangers and Celtic have been linked with a deal for Leeds United’s Joe Gelhardt this month, but they aren’t the only ones interested in the attacker. According to Alan Nixon, West Bromwich Albion have entered the competition. The Baggies are looking to add to their attacking options.

Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End have also been connected, but given that the Championship pair and West Brom are competing for promotion alongside Leeds, Rangers and Celtic may emerge as the front-runners for the Liverpudlian. Gelhardt has struggled to find playing time in the Championship under Daniel Farke, appearing in only six league games.

A loan move may be on the cards this month, with Leeds hoping the 21-year-old can recapture the confidence and form he displayed when he first appeared on the scene a few of seasons ago.
