I’ll win in a style befitting Celtic’s history; Rogders vows#

On Sunday, the Celtic manager leads his team to St Mirren for a Scottish Cup last-16 match.

As he gets ready for a challenging Scottish Gas Scottish Cup matchup against St Mirren in Paisley, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers emphasises that he will always aim to win in a manner worthy of the team’s past.

When the team last visited the SMISA Stadium on January 2, they won 3-0. Coming into the winter break, they had won four straight games, including a victory over Rangers and some of the manager’s desired quick-tempo play. Since coming back, they have not reached those heights and, after a draw at Aberdeen, defeated Hibs in the final seconds thanks to two penalties and a few missed opportunities by their hosts.

“I will always look for continual improvement,” stated Rodgers. The team has been disrupted throughout the season by the absence of several important players, who have obviously missed a significant portion of it due to injury or other circumstances. In addition, you have players returning who may not have played in a while and new players who must adjust to your preferred method of operation.

All of that means that you might not always be as cohesive as you would like to be. However, the players are still working extremely hard and giving it their all. Six of the previous seven games have been won by them. Even though unity and inventiveness are desirable, winning is still crucial, and that is what the players are aiming for.

“We had been on a really good run of games and then we get to the Ross County game and it was a little bit slow,” the former manager of Liverpool and Leicester continued. But in that game, we squandered chances, and crucial moments are what matter. We somewhat lost the spirit when we missed a penalty. However, we’ll never stop trying to play the best as best we can. That is what’s expected of you at a team like Celtic. Winning isn’t enough; you also need to do it in a way that honours the team and its supporters. We will always make an effort to accomplish that.

Even though Celtic won the previous meeting in Paisley, Rodgers anticipates playing at the same calibre. “Momentum is something you want to create, but it can also go at the same time,” the speaker continued. I believe that the key is to always have an awareness of how we operate and play, and that every game has requirements for doing so. If you play games well from the beginning, that’s great, but let’s keep it up. That is always the takeaway, but it is also a component of our analysis, training, and coaching.
