“It’s time for an upgrade,” Rodgers plans major boost for the hoops#

Celtic fans weren’t overly impressed with the team’s actions at the conclusion of the January transfer window.

It was widely known coming into the New Year that managerwas looking to expand the team’s options at several positions. Although Anthony Joseph, a reporter for Sky Sports, had predicted that Rodgers would want to sign four players during the window, he ultimately signed just two.

On deadline day, Republic of Ireland forward Adam Idah joined the team on loan from Norwich, replacing German winger Nicolas Kuhn, who had joined Rapid Vienna permanently. Although both of the new additions have been successful for the Hoops in their early Parkhead careers, none of them plays the position that many fans have been clamouring for…

The left back spot has long been seen by the Celtic supporters as the team’s weak point. Although fans have praised Greg Taylor for his consistency over the last two seasons, there is a growing perception that the Scottish international lacks enough competition or backup in that area.

Celtics manager Brendan Rodgers appears to hold a similar opinion, according to transfer reporter Dean Jones of GiveMeSport.

Jones clarifies, saying, “A left-back will be the top target for the summer window as you would say looking at it right now. You’re also curious as to what state Celtic will even be in at that point.

“When January first started, I believed that this would be a strengthening assignment to ensure that they could fend off Rangers’ title challenge. But as February gets underway, the Rangers are once again challenging for the championship.

“I believe that there is still plenty of time for Brendan Rodgers to completely win everyone over and for the scope to change around transfers. There will undoubtedly be some doubts regarding the most recent outcomes.

During the winter transfer window, Celtic was strongly linked to PSG’s 13-time French international Layvin Kurzawa. The 31-year-old was eager to get regular first team football because he has struggled to make the first team and has only made one league appearance. However, the Glasgow giants ultimately decided against making a move because of the 31-year-old’s wage demands.

The defender’s deal is set to expire in the summer, so it will be interesting to see if Celtic makes another attempt to sign the seasoned left back or if they choose to pursue another option.

It will be interesting to see if Celtic decides to use the remaining cash from Jota’s high-profile £25 million move to Saudi Arabia in the summer to acquire a left-sided defender. The Hoops have a lot of money.
