Medical Passed: Celtic to announce ‘Huge’ signing

Celtic have reached a full agreement to sign Kasper Schmeichel, sources have told Football Insider.

The 37-year-old has already completed a Hoops medical and agreed personal terms with the club.

As Schmeichel prepares to settle in Scotland, the transaction is expected to be completed by the end of Saturday, according to sources.

Those at Celtic Park consider the deal to be a “huge” coup, and Brendan Rodgers was instrumental in making it happen.

The agreement will bring Rodgers and the Danish custodian back together after their successful spell together at Leicester City.

Since Joe Hart departed at the end of the previous season, the Hoops had been looking for a new number one custodian; however, that search is finally concluded.
Schmeichel’s contract with Anderlecht expired this summer, making him a free agent.

Celtic will gain a vastly experienced goalkeeper in Kasper Schmeichel

Schmeichel is viewed as a top signing for the defending Scottish Premiership champions due to his vast experience at the highest level.

The Denmark international made 479 appearances for Leicester, recording 147 clean sheets, and making a substantial contribution to their historic Premier League championship victory in 2016.

At the European Championships, Schmeichel, who is 37 years old, recently participated in all four of Denmark’s games and is still performing at a high level.
He made 32 appearances for Anderlecht in all competitions last season, keeping eight clean sheets while the squad gave up 33 goals.
Schmeichel also has some experience playing in Scotland, having had a successful loan from Manchester City to Falkirk in 2007.
During that period, he made ten appearances and recorded three clean sheets, but he is now returning to the nation at a very different point in his career.
