Earlier this month, Celtic made their first transfer of the January window when they made a surprise move to Rapid Wien for German winger Nicolas Kuhn.
But the Hoops might not be done yet. According to Football Insider, Brendan Rodgers is reportedly looking to bolster his team with a left-back, a goalkeeper, and a center-forward.
Bojan Miovski, the number nine for Aberdeen, is one striker who has been linked to a potential transfer to Parkhead ahead of the second half of the season.
The impressive attacker would cost £4.5 million or more, according to a December report in The Scottish Sun. The Dons are seeking to pay more than the £4.4 million transfer record between Scottish clubs, which was set by Scott Brown’s 2007 move from Hibernian to the Hoops.
Now that Miovski is available, Rodgers has a great chance to replace current striker Hyeon-gyu Oh by signing a contract before the transfer window closes next week.
The South Korea international, who is currently away at the Asian Cup, has scored 12 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions since joining Parkhead at the beginning of last year. Eleven of those goals have come in his 35 appearances in the Scottish Premiership.
According to this, the 22-year-old forward has scored once every 3.75 games for the Hoops and once every 3.18 games in the Premier League.
In Scotland, the South Korean marksman has had difficulty producing for his colleagues. He has not yet provided an assist for Celtic in 35 league games, and he has only produced one “big chance” for his teammates.
Miovski has the potential to be a center-forward who can provide more offensive threat and assist in creating opportunities for others in the final third.
The stats that show why Miovski could offer more than Oh
The SPFL whiz has been in incredible form since moving to Scotland in the summer of 2022, as you can see in the table above, so his performance this term has not been a fluke.
Over the past season and a half, the 24-year-old striker, who his manager Barry Robson praised as a “brilliant” boy, has scored 34 goals and provided seven assists in 72 games for the Dons.
This indicates that the Celtic target has scored for the Scottish team on average once every 2.12 games, which is significantly better than Oh’s output for the Bhoys.
In addition, he has generated one “big chance” every 7.9 games, or seven in 55, compared to the South Korean’s solitary generation of one in 35 league games for the Hoops.
Miovski should therefore be signed by Rodgers to compete with Kyogo Furuhashi in the second half of the season because he can offer more quality as a scorer and goal creator than Oh did.
