Two prominent women’s organisations have denounced Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers for referring to BBC reporter Jane Lewis as a “good girl.”
The comment was made following the Parkhead manager’s acrimonious argument with the seasoned broadcaster following the Premiership champions’ thrilling 3-1 victory against Motherwell. The 50-year-old received harsh criticism on social media from commentators and former players for the way he concluded the radio interview. “Done, good girl, well done,” he said in response to Lewis questioning Rodgers about his nebulous assertion that predictions from outside sources had already revealed how the champions’ season will unfold against a revitalised Rangers team.
The Irishman replied, “The story has already been written about this group, but we will write our own story.” Lewis, according to The Daily Mail, is undeterred by the approaching storm, but some people are offended by the comment. “Jane Lewis was just doing her job, trying to get Brendan Rodgers to explain his cryptic comment,” the Scottish Feminist Network stated. “That the go-to attitude was condescension is quite illuminating, but really very depressing in 2024.” We believed dinosaurs to be extinct.
Additionally, Lewis has been asked to get a prompt apology from Celtic manager Rodgers. Campaigners from For Women Scotland spokeswoman: “It’s disheartening that sexism is still pervasive in casual sports.” Women’s accomplishments are minimised and disregarded, and their standing in the workplace is compromised. The reporter deserves an apology from Rodgers.”
