two players celtic agree signings in January

Neil Lennon has shared where he believes Celtic must strengthen after watching his old team suffer a defeat to Hearts last weekend.

Brendan Rodgers has had to deal with the backlash of back-to-back defeats to the Edinburgh side and Kilmarnock but Lennon believes if he strengthens two key areas in the team, it would go a long way to helping improve fortunes on the pitch.

“I don’t think he’s [Callum McGregor] a great number six,” Lennon said [PLZ Soccer]. He would be much more effective, in my opinion, in a 6/8 role where he can penetrate and score goals.

In my opinion, having a physical presence in the midfield is essential.

“And obviously, another number nine, another goal scorer, if people don’t think or if Brendan doesn’t think Oh the man to supplement Kyogo.”

Lennon should add a custodian and a left back to that list, in my opinion, but for the time being, let’s take his remarks at face value.

It’s clear who the striker is. Rodgers won’t have much on offence because Kyogo, Maeda, and Oh are almost certainly going to the Asia Cup.

But if Rodgers keeps playing the way he has at Celtic, I would suggest that he signs a striker who fits into his system because there is no sense in signing a frontman along the lines of Kyogo.

An essential player is a holding midfielder. Lennon is right when he says that Callum McGregor isn’t that kind of player. As a midfield enforcer, the Celtic captain is a master at controlling play and being incisive, but forget about it.

We can only hope that Rodgers has these players on his roster. Hopefully, talks are already in progress for them. Hopefully, the Celtic board will split the money. After all, it’s Christmas.
