Chelsea make Mauricio Pochettino decision following Middlesbrough loss:

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino should be fearing for his job right now.

Mauricio Pochettino has not even been at Chelsea for a year yet, but his first season at Stamford Bridge has not gone to plan. The Blues are 10th in the Premier League and have just lost to Championship side Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup.

However, according to football.london, the club have no intention of sacking the Argentine at this moment in time.

The outlet claims that Chelsea are continuing to back their manager despite the team’s poor campaign.

While the Blues could yet win the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, their main goal heading into this season would have been qualifying for the Champions League, something which now looks highly unlikely.

Chelsea should not sack Mauricio Pochettino

Some fans may very well want Pochettino out. Results in the Premier League have not been good enough, while his team selections have been questionable.

For example, some are not fully convinced with his decision to play central defender Levi Colwill at left-back, including Chelsea legend Pat Nevin.

However, the former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur boss has had to deal with an injury crisis at Stamford Bridge this term and despite that, Chelsea have still managed to perform in most of their big games.

Under Pochettino, the Blues have beaten Tottenham Hotspur and earned draws against Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal. With that in mind, then, imagine what the 51-year-old could do with a fully fit squad.

It is why you can make an argument for letting Pochettino enter the second year of his two-year contract.

And again, with silverware still on offer, this campaign may not end up being a complete disaster. Missing out on Champions League football would be a blow, but winning either the Carabao Cup or FA Cup would make a lot of supporters happy.
