A55 closure after serious collision near border

The A55 has fully reopened after being closed for the entire night due to a serious collision involving an HGV and a pedestrian.

Cheshire Police reported a “serious collision” on the A55 near Chester at around 5 p.m. yesterday.

The road between Junctions 38 and 40 was blocked from both directions.

While emergency services, including an air ambulance, attended to the incident, traffic remained at a standstill.

Due to extended delays and severe traffic, drivers were forced to wait an additional three hours, prompting the implementation of a diversion.

National Highways confirmed that between the Posthouse roundabout and the A41 turn off, the eastbound route would be closed all night. It was around 6.40 p.m. when the westbound lanes reopened.

This morning, at 3.30 am, the road reopened.

An official from Cheshire Police made the following statement in an evening statement: “Police were notified of the collision, which involved an HGV and a pedestrian, just after 5:00 p.m.

“The eastbound carriageway is presently closed between junction 38 (Wrexham Road) and junction 40 (Tarvin Road) due to the incident.

“Cheshire police are asking anyone who saw the collision or has dashcam footage of it to get in touch with them as enquiries into the collision are still ongoing.

“Information can be reported online at www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us or by calling 101 quoting IML 1839763.”
