Chesterfield are not delighted with National League fixture decision

The Spireites will now play two games in three days when they travel to Gateshead on Monday night instead of their scheduled Tuesday trip to Wealdstone.

The choice was taken because several postponements had left some teams, like Gateshead, having to make up ground before the season ended on April 20.

“We can confirm Gateshead’s home fixture with Chesterfield has been rearranged for Monday, April 15,” the National League said in a statement.Owing to the congestion in fixtures that has resulted from many postponements in the last 10 days, the fixture has been moved ahead by 24 hours, from Tuesday, April 16 to Monday, April 15.The competition’s integrity has been safeguarded by the decision to move the fixture.

“The game is scheduled to begin at 7:45 p.m. at Gateshead International Stadium and will be broadcast live on National League TV.”

“The decision was not supported by the club and a response will be issued on Friday,” the Spireites responded.

Some Town supporters would now be out of pocket because they had already booked their lodging and transportation for Tuesday night.

“Hope National League is paying for all our fans’ hotels, trains, and coaches to be rearranged,” tweeted @tricks9. This is really disgusting.

“Thanks for the one-minute notice, National League!” wrote @THillJourno on social media. Fortunately, I won’t be impacted because I’m only a short distance away, but given the length of the journey, who made this absurd choice when people have already paid for travel?

As @1866Pedro put it, “laughable.” scheduled a Tuesday off. Not giving the fans any thought.

“Oh no, I’m working till 16.00 in East Manchester,” wrote @Spireite7547 on social media. It’s really hard to make 19.45 these days. I was staying over and had taken Tuesday evening off. This is unbelievable. Can we reject it or are we forced to accept it?

“Want to address refunds for fans who now can’t get,” @hwgysuj3bejskao continued.

@timchambers321 remarked: “Truly absurd people. Forward the junior squad.
