Chesterfield FC’s planned Parade to mark promotion..

Chesterfield FC’s promotion back to the English Football League, and the National League title, was secured as they beat Boreham Wood 3-0 last weekend.

In three previous seasons, the club missed out on promotion after play-off heartbreak.

Now, the club and Chesterfield Borough Council are in discussions.

They want to arrange a way for fans to formally celebrate the team taking matters into their own hands with five games to spare.

A parade and town hall reception are both on the cards, club chairman Mike Goodwin told the BBC.

He said: “We have had those conversations with the borough council.

“They wish to pay tribute to the football team. They intend to host a banquet at the town hall and a parade for us.

“Those plans are being put in place as we speak now so over the next few days we should have something sorted for that.”

The head of the council, Councillor Tricia Gilby, congratulated Chesterfield FC on their return to the EFL. It’s fantastic for the town and the borough, as well as for the team and their devoted fan base.

“A prosperous football team is essential to Chesterfield’s business community.

The council’s decision to support the Community Trust in purchasing Chesterfield FC was justified by the players’ lifting of the National League trophy, and the trust and its board of directors, along with Paul Cook, the coaching staff, and the players, have done an outstanding job guiding the club’s journey back to its rightful place.

“An official celebration ceremony will be held by the council to commemorate Chesterfield FC’s achievements.

“We are working with the club on the arrangements right now, and in the next few days, we will provide the specifics.

“It should be another brilliant occasion for the club and the town.”
