Chesterfield miss out on these club records after dip in form – but it’s still been fantastic season

The Spireites will be playing in the EFL next season for the first time since 2018 after winning the National League title.

They have played some of the best football the fifth-tier has ever seen as they blew teams away to open up a lead at the top of more than 20 points in January and February before sealing the title in March, scoring more than 100 goals.

Along the process, they have set club records for attendance, goals scored away, wins, points, and home victories in a row. They had a chance to surpass the National League’s point record of Wrexham 111, which was just set the previous year, but regrettably, a decline in performance has prevented them from scoring 100 points.

A complete season without a loss at home is another honour that has eluded them. That ended with a 3-1 loss to Kidderminster Harriers over the Easter weekend. But if they win their match against Maidenhead United on Saturday, they would have tied the club record for the fewest home losses.

Sadly, though, they can’t now tie the club record with 13 victories away from home. They’ve tied the club record with 12 away days, but they’re out of days. They won number twelve at Barnet at the end of February, but they had lost five of their previous six away games. On Monday night, they had an opportunity to win 13 at Gateshead, but they were defeated 2-1.
