The coordinator for special teams can be removed from Chicago, but the special teams cannot be removed from the coordinator for special teams. In the 99th East-West Shrine Bowl on Friday, Bears special teams coordinator Richard Hightower took on the role of head coach for the East squad, and his offence was preventing touchdowns far into the second half. No issue, as Hightower is aware of the importance of special teams. In the third quarter, Oregon State punt returner Anthony Gould took Ryan Rehkow of BYU’s 54-yard punt 80 yards for a score.
Going undrafted, Gould is a player the Bears should take into consideration as they need a more potent punt return threat. In the 2022 season, he had two touchdowns and averaged 16.3 yards per return while making 26 returns for Oregon State. He never finished a season with an average below 10.3. Gould was a receiver for the Beavers last season.
He has 44 receptions for 718 yards (16.3 yards per catch) and two touchdowns. Throughout his career, he caught 84 passes for 1,360 yards and six touchdowns. In a 26-11 loss to Hightower’s East team, the special teams touchdown was the only time the home team reached the end zone.
Tulia Tagovailoa, brother of Tua Tagovailoa, dashed in a touchdown and completed nineteen passes for 142 yards on the winning West team led by Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka. This year’s anticipated late Day 2 or Day 3 choice is Maryland quarterback Tagovailoa.
