Striker Vazquez stays hot with Champions Cup goal for Monterrey’

Brandon Vazquez continued his strong start to life at Monterrey, scoring the final goal in his side’s 3-0 Concacaf Champions Cup win over Comunicaciones on Thursday.

Vazquez wrapped up a comfortable win in the 79th minute after some good work from Rodrigo Aguirre. The U.S. national team striker received a pass in the box from the Uruguayan, opened his body and took a touch past his defender before quickly finishing to make it 3-0 in the second leg.

The goal wrapped up a comfortable 7-1 aggregate win for Rayados, who will now face either Jamaican side Cavalier or Vazquez’s former team FC Cincinnati in the Champions Cup last 16.

In the early stages of his Monterrey career, Vazquez has lived up to the fanfare following his January $7.5 million transfer from Cincinnati. In just six games so far, the 25-year-old has scored four goals—four of them have come from starts and two came off the bench.

On Sunday night, Monterrey will play Toluca in a Liga MX match. Rayados leads the standings going into the weekend with six games played, including four victories and two ties.
