What Tee Higgins’ future holds is one of the major tales that Cincinnati Bengals fans will hear a lot about this offseason. In the 2020 draft, the Bengals selected Higgins with a second-round pick; however, his contract has expired. He can enter free agency if the Bengals decide not to sign him to a new contract or apply the franchise tag to him.
Worse, Higgins may even have an idea about where he wants to land. Higgins admitted to The Sick Podcast that he wouldn’t mind returning home to Oak Ridge, Tennessee, which is about two and a half hours away from Nashville, and seeing his friend Brian Callahan again. Callahan left this offseason to accept a job offer.
Could the Titans make sense as a landing spot for Tee Higgins?
If the Bengals choose to sign Higgins with the franchise tag, it wouldn’t be shocking as it would mean he would play in Cincinnati in 2024. That is, of course, assuming the Bengals are able to arrange a trade that would allow them to send him elsewhere and receive compensation.
The Bengals will have to determine if a WR2 is worth spending that much money on given the projected $20 million 2024 wide receiver tag number. Ja’Marr Chase is still with them, but they will also need another weapon because Tyler Boyd is set to become a free agent.
The Bengals must also take into account the fact that Higgins struggled with injuries in 2023, missing five games and recording his lowest career stats (42 receptions for 656 yards and five touchdowns).
Regarding possible landing spots, Higgins would find a lot of sense with the Titans. He is a native of the region, has spent his whole NFL career working with the head coach, and could be a huge asset for quarterback Will Levis, who is in his second season.
Bengals supporters would be sad to see Higgins leave, but if that’s what he wants to do, this location makes sense for him.
