Ohio’s Cleveland — Ahead of the trade deadline on Tuesday at 4 p.m., the Browns announced a number of alterations to their practice squad.
Running backs Nate McCrary and Jordan Wilkins have been released, and the team has added wide receiver James Proche, lineman Geron Christian, and running back Kenyan Drake to the practice squad. In addition, after suffering a biceps injury on Sunday against the Seahawks, tackle Ty Nsekhe has been placed on the practice squad as injured.
Nsekhe will be replaced by Christian (6-5, 315), a sixth-season Louisville product. Christian, who was selected by Washington in the third round in 2018, has played in 49 games with the Commanders (2018–20), Texans (2021–2023), and Chiefs (2022), with 16 starts. This season, he made one start for the Texans in a victory over the Steelers.
Drake (6-1, 211) is an Alabama native that Miami initially selected in the third round in 2016. With the Dolphins, Cardinals, Raiders, and Ravens, he has participated in 103 games and made 44 starts. Throughout his career, he has amassed 218 receptions for 1,655 yards and eight touchdowns in addition to 868 carries for 3,866 yards and 33 touchdowns. He made two appearances for the Ravens this season with two receptions for 31 yards
Proche (5-11, 193) has also spent time with the Ravens, and was a 2020 sixth-round pick by Baltimore. He enters his fourth season and has appeared in 43 games for the Ravens. Last year, he recorded eight receptions for 62 yards through 15 games.
The practice squad moves go along with the Browns big move of the afternoon so far: trading Donovan Peoples-Jones, their 2020 sixth-round receiver out of Michigan, to the Lions for a sixth-rounder in 2025.
