How Cleveland Shut Down The Cardinals.

Studying the tape on Deshaun Watson’s return to the field and how the Browns dominant defense pulled off a shutout win over Arizona

A game like the Cleveland Browns’ dominating display against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9 is uncommon.

It was the ideal environment for Cleveland to receive a 27-0 thrashing, with rookie quarterback Clayton Tune leading the Cardinals and a roster still very much in the making.

In a dominating effort that included seven sacks and only 58 yards of total offence by Arizona, Cleveland’s defence stole the show. For only the second time this season, the Browns overcame their three turnovers to win the turnover war. They had returned to their former glory.

Despite the strong defence, supporters were most excited about Deshaun Watson, the franchise quarterback, who was making his much-anticipated comeback after six weeks of recovering from a shoulder injury. Watson’s need for some time to get into a rhythm and find his form following his Week 3 victory against the Titans was clear in the first half.

He had only completed 55% of his attempts at the half, and his lone touchdown pass to Amari Cooper had come thanks to a fortunate bounce. In the second half, the former Texans quarterback was even more effective, going eight for nine for 83 yards and another touchdown throw.
