30-year-old star set to leave the Sky Blues”

Coventry City are looking at potential left-back targets for the summer, leaving Jake Bidwell’s future uncertain, according to reporter Tom Collomosse.

In January 2022, Coventry City brought in seasoned defender Bidwell to their team. He was signed by the Sky Blues from Championship rivals Swansea City, and he has since made 92 appearances for the team.

For the majority of the last several months, the 30-year-old has been Mark Robins’ go-to player on the left side of the backline. This season, Bidwell has participated in 25 games across all competitions; however, Jay Dasilva has started the last few games.

Now, with summer approaching, rumours have it that former Brentford and Everton player Bidwell is facing an uncertain future.

Reporter Tom Collomosse of X stated that Coventry City has set its sights on possible left-back targets for the summer transfer window, therefore it is unclear what will happen to the left-back. Bidwell’s contract expires in 2025, but Collomosse says there will be plenty of suitors if a move materialises.

On the move?

Bidwell leaving Coventry City in the summer does appear possible. A move later in the year would prevent the Sky Blues from perhaps losing him for nothing when his contract expires in 2025 and allow them to get payment for his services.

It makes sense that they are already considering left-back prospects because of this. They can start thinking ahead about their summertime hiring plans now, which should help them move swiftly towards their goal and allow them to become accustomed to life under Mark Robins.

It will be interesting to watch how things work out for Bidwell. You would think he would have a tonne of Championship alternatives available, as Collomosse points out.

His primary position is left defender, but he can also play centre back on the left side of the ball and further forward as a wing back when necessary. Throughout his career, Bidwell has participated in 385 games in the second division, giving him a background and experience that few other left-backs may be able to match.
