Coventry City fans favorite facing summer Celtic, Rangers decision

Coventry City midfielder Callum O’Hare is out of contract this summer and is interesting Scottish giants, Rangers and Celtic.

With Gustavo Hamer and Viktor Gyokeres departing earlier this year, O’Hare is now undoubtedly one of the biggest fan favourites left at the club, and his return to action in recent months was evidently much needed, and has coincided with a rise up the table and into play-off contention for Cov.

O’Hare has been involved in 27 of the last 30 games in all competitions for Coventry and appears to be a player now back to his best following a lengthy ACL injury last year. Although, however timely his return has been, his contract situation is less than ideal for the club. Other sides are bound to be interested in the playmaker when factoring his recent form into that as well.

With his contract currently expiring this summer, he can speak to foreign-based clubs now about a summer pre-contract agreement, including the two great Scottish rivals north of the border. O’Hare is attracting interest from a number of clubs, including Everton, Fulham and Southampton. Others include Burnley, as well as Championship duo Leicester City and Southampton who were all said to have submitted offers for Coventry’s star, according to a report from HITC. But it is Celtic and Rangers who have been linked most frequently with the midfielder.

Callum O’Hare’s next career move

The race for promotion and the final play-off slots are not assured without an outstanding finish to the season for Mark Robins’ team, therefore Coventry has little chance of keeping O’Hare on board if they are not promoted to the Premier League this season.

If he decides to leave Coventry this summer, we ask our FLW writers for their advice on what his next professional step should be. Would the 25-year-old’s next move be better with Celtic or Rangers?

When he’s on his game, O’Hare is among the most gifted and captivating attackers in the Championship. O’Hare must play in a top-tier league starting in the upcoming season, and he will undoubtedly be targeting the Premier League this summer, whether it’s with Coventry or another team.

There are others who contend that he would be wasting his best years as a player if he played for the Rangers or Celtics. For a player of O’Hare’s calibre, though, the chance to play for one of the oldest British teams and participate in annual trophy competitions should not be disregarded.

A player like O’Hare would undoubtedly find it alluring to compete for trophies, titles, and in Europe every season—where Rangers, in particular, have had some success and deep runs in recent seasons—even though some could counter that it’s an easier career move to make. Particularly when taking into account the speed at which a player may become the beloved and idol of either Celtic or Rangers—many examples from English football travelling in the opposite direction attest to this.

The problem with it is that he might end up playing his greatest years in Scotland instead of putting his best footballing years in the Premier League, which can propel players to even greater heights if they perform well for any side in the division, regardless of their goals.

With his talent, Callum O’Hare might dominate the Scottish Premiership.

The attacking midfielder, who rose to prominence at Coventry City after making his mark at Aston Villa, probably dreams of playing Premier League football. If he were to leave the Sky Blues this summer, his choice might be to join a top-tier English team.

However, depending on his alternatives, his next move might possibly make more sense with the Rangers or Celtics.

Unlike several Premier League teams that have been linked to O’Hare, both Old Firm clubs are likely to see him start frequently. In addition, O’Hare has the potential to produce enormous stats in the Scottish Premier League and probably win a tonne of awards.

Rangers and Celtic are both enormous teams, and a talented player like the Coventry star could easily become a favourite among their respective sizable and ardent fan bases.

And if playing in the Premier League is really his desire, making waves north of the border would be a smart method for him to advance and guarantee a transfer to a higher-level team.

Although it makes sense that he would prefer to play in England’s top division, joining Celtic or Rangers this summer might be a very interesting move.
