Danny Rohl has key Sheffield Wednesday worry as shocking stat emerges after Coventry’

Sheffield Wednesday played Coventry City for a third time in five games last night, with last night’s clash being an FA Cup fourth round replay.

As usual, Sheffield Wednesday had a respectable first half, leading to halftime at 1-1 following Bailey Cadamarteri’s equalisation of Kasey Palmer’s opening goal.

However, the Sky Blues go on the rampage in the second half, scoring three goals to win 4-1. In the fifth round, they will play Maidstone United.

The Owls are now only focused on league play. However, Rohl might be worrying about something else now that he lost last night.

Sheffield Wednesday put in another woeful defensive display

Sheffield Wednesday entered Tuesday night’s match fresh off a humiliating 4-0 loss to Huddersfield Town on the road the previous weekend.

Both the outcome and the performance were startling, particularly the defensive play that saw multiple individual mistakes result in goals.

And the Owls’ defence last night was once again forgettable; in their previous four away games—at Southampton last month, at Huddersfield last weekend, and last night at Coventry—they have now let up 12 goals.

Owls can’t rely on Hillsborough form to stay up

Sheffield Wednesday is ranked 20th in the Championship’s home form table.

At Hillsborough, Danny Rohl’s team has amassed 16 points out of a potential 45, but Sheffield Wednesday has only managed seven points out of a possible 45 when playing away from home.

But Rohl will understand that the Owls cannot win if they only rely on their home record.

But Rohl feels as though he lacks the personnel to stay up, at least not at this time, particularly when it comes to defence.

The awful state of the current defensive alternatives was made evident by the signing of Kristian Pedersen and his following subpar debut against Huddersfield.

The only one who is probably reliable is Di’Shon Bernard. Despite the fact that he has had to switch and chop partners during the season, with the full-backs often changing too, as well as the goalkeeper.

Rohl is still searching for his best defensive line up and it could now be a case of changing shape, maybe to a back-five.

It’ll certainly be interest to see what changes Rohl makes for Friday’s crunch match vs Birmingham City.

Another defeat here would keep the Owls eight points behind Huddersfield Town in 21st and also give Birmingham City a huge three points in their own fight for survival.

Kick off is at 8pm and the game will be shown live on Sky Sports.
