Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as detailed figures of the Viktor Gyokeres deal to Sporting Lisbon are revealed
The sale of Viktor Gyokeres from Coventry City has been confirmed by Sporting Lisbon. The transfer might cost the Portuguese team up to €26 million.
With seven goals in his first ten Primeira Liga games (and nine in 13 overall), the 25-year-old former star striker for Sky Blues has already propelled his new team to second place in the Portuguese top flight, where they are tied with Benfica on points but below their rivals due to goal difference.
Sporting have communicated to the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) the values involved in their 2023 transfer market deals, with player entries and exits, including bonuses and commission values.
The Swedish international was acquired by City for an initial payment of €20 million (£17.5), according to the club. Bonuses of €4 million are expected to be “added upon achieving objectives,” which are typically determined by the standard performance criteria of the number of games played and goals scored. That might result in Coventry receiving slightly under £21 million, or €24 million, in total.
The two million euros in commission that were paid for intermediation in the agreement—basically, agent fees—also made the deal total €26 million. This brought the total cost of the transfer to Sporting. According to the contract, which was obtained by the Portuguese website ojogo.pt, Coventry City is also entitled to a sell-on provision that allows it to retain 15% of any future capital gains, with a 10% reduction possible.
It states that “15 percent of future capital gains, which can be reduced up to 10 percent at the option of Sporting SAD, or depending on the partial achievement of individual and collective objectives” are due to the former club of the Swedish international.
