The CCFPA would like to send former forward Andy Morrell a “Very Happy Birthday” for today as the first of three birthday wishes for former Sky Blue “Birthday Boys” today.
Since Andy was born on September 28, 1974, in Doncaster, he will be celebrating his 49th birthday today. Before he really established his soccer career in Wales, Andy played as an amateur/semi-professional with teams like Newcastle Blue Star while studying Sports Science at Newcastle University and working at a gym. Fans of the Sky Blues will recall Andy as a dedicated wing forward who was acquired by Gary McAllister from Wrexham in May 2003 after five seasons of prolific goal-scoring (43 goals in 120 appearances).
In his three seasons with us, Andy scored a respectable 24 goals in 108 first team appearances (mostly from the bench). He also helped us out during a challenging period in the Championship. He relocated to Blackpool in August 2006, where he immediately had a significant impact on the team’s effort to achieve Premier League status. Then, in 2008, Andy relocated to Bury for a few of seasons before helping Wrexham (from 2011 as player-manager) from August 2010 to February 2014. In 2013, he brought the Dragons to Wembley again, each time winning the F.A.Trophy
Following a brief stint as Shrewsbury Town’s assistant manager, Andy took over as “gaffer” of Tamworth FC in early 2014, leading the Conference North team to the play-offs while still playing a significant amount of games. Claus Bech Jorgensen later joined Andy in the role. Andy began playing for Redditch United in February 2018 and scored on his debut!
In April 2020, Andy started working as a part-time “gaffer” for Hednesford Town. He departed the team, however, in October of that same year. Andy is also the manager and owner of iAMFootballUK, which is situated in Derby.

Early in 2011, Andy joined CCFPA, becoming the organization’s 180th Full member. He has frequently appeared as the Association’s “special” visitor and occasionally joins our Sky Blues Legends XI team for charity games and Legends Days (as seen in the right-hand photo at LD18).
We wish you a wonderful day, Andy! Visit us again soon by coming back.
