It is impossible to dispute United’s illustrious past or its status as a “big” team, which carries a certain air of superiority that borders on conceit. Before the ball was even kicked, the Elland Road supporters were feeling confident that they would defeat Coventry City, a small Midlands team, and take three points. It was brilliant to watch as white shirts dropped to the deck, clutching knees and ankles in faux agony.
