New update on the Sharks star move away from the club

Steve Mace, the chairman of the Cronulla Sharks, has responded to reports that star halfback Nicho Hynes is leaving the team unexpectedly to join a rival team.

Hynes won the Dally M Medal in 2022 and has been one of the league’s best playmakers the last few seasons, despite his injury at the moment.

Along with leading the Sharks to back-to-back finals and transforming them into legitimate finals contenders with Blayke Brailey, Ronaldo Mulitalo, and Briton Nikora, his excellent form has also coincided.

Despite being signed through the end of 2029, there are still rumours that he might leave the team before his current contract expires.

Following Chad Townsend’s departure to the Sydney Roosters, there was some talk about Hynes possibly joining the North Queensland Cowboys; according to reports from The Daily Telegraph, the halfback was thinking about moving to Townsville.

Steve Mace, the chairman of the Cronulla Sharks, has since put an end to the rumours, saying the Hynes isn’t “going anywhere” and will stay at the club for the foreseeable future.

“It’s the first I’ve heard of it,” Mace stated to the newspaper.

“I don’t think it has any merit at all. Nicho adores the neighbourhood and the club.

“He’s content here and won’t be leaving.”

Nicho Hynes broke his left ankle’s tibia and completely ruptured its syndesmosis, so he won’t be able to play again until at least a week before the NRL finals begin.

Although Daniel Atkinson, who started alongside Braydon Trindall in the halves last weekend, has been an excellent replacement for him in his absence, they were unable to overcome the Cowboys following a convincing victory over the Wests Tigers.

They will play the South Sydney Rabbitohs at home, the Gold Coast Titans away, the Newcastle Knights at home, the St. George Illawarra Dragons away, and the New Zealand Warriors at home over the upcoming few weeks.
