It was Friday night against the Tigers that he sustained the injury.
The young forward Jesse Colquhoun’s 2024 NRL season has officially ended, according to the Cronulla Sharks.
Following his removal from the pitch during Friday night’s decisive victory over the Wests Tigers, the 22-year-old’s injury to his ACL has now been officially confirmed by the team.
After suffering a devastating knee injury, the child, who has participated in 11 games in first grade so far, will need to recover for nine to twelve months.
If his recovery doesn’t go as planned, he may miss half of next year before being healthy enough to play in the NSW Cup with the Sydney Thunderbirds. In the best case scenario, this means he could be pushing to return during the first month of the 2025 season.
The fact that the young player had only recently recovered from a foot fracture sustained during a pre-season trial match against the Canterbury Bulldogs earlier this year made the injury all the more devastating for him.
His first NRL match of the 2024 season was against the Tigers, and the talented rookie was hoping to add to the ten games he had already played since making his debut in 2022.
Colquhoun was re-signed by the Sharks earlier this year until at least the end of the 2026 season, so he has plenty of time to establish himself as an NRL level player when he does return before having to worry about his future. This is in spite of his injury and ongoing injuries.
The only other recent injury, as confirmed by the Sharks, is that of outside back Mawene Hiroti, who was playing for Newtown when he fractured his eye socket.
