The 21-year-old, who spent 14 years at Old Trafford representing Manchester United at every level—captaining the U18s and going on to make two first team appearances—joined the Hatters back in August after being granted permission to leave the club. Mengi signed as a player for the future, but he made his Hatters debut in the Carabao Cup loss against Exeter. Maintaining Mengi will be a top priority for Town manager Rob Edwards, who has already declared that he will not be seeking to erode his team during the January transfer window in an effort to guide the Hatters to Premier League safety.
