Crystal Palace to be fined by FA after Liverpool loss and Roy Hodgson:

Crystal Palace have been handed an automatic £25k fine for ill-discipline in their 2-1 loss to Liverpool on Saturday

Crystal Palace will be fined by the FA for ill-discipline in their loss to Liverpool on Saturday.

The Eagles were on their way to an unlikely 1-0 victory over the Reds at Selhurst Park, before Jordan Ayew was controversially sent off for a second bookable offence in the 75th minute. Moments later, Mohamed Salah equalised with his 200th Liverpool goal, before Harvey Elliott scored the winner in stoppage-time.

Ayew wasn’t the only Palace player to get on the wrong side of referee Andy Madley during the game though, with the official also cautioning five further players and manager Roy Hodgson. While the former Liverpool boss admitted after the game that he himself was deserving of a yellow card, he insisted that the majority of his players were not.

“I think that having to play the game with 10 men for the last 15-20 minutes was unbelievably harsh on us,” he told TNT Sports after the final whistle. “I don’t believe it was worthy.

“The way we played and the amount of fouls we committed, which were about the same amount as Liverpool’s, maybe one or two less. I don’t think we deserved nine yellow cards.

“I probably deserved mine so I’ll shrug that off… Van Dijk took the opportunity to get him (Ayew) the first yellow card by kicking the ball against him from a few yards away. That’s very disappointing…

“The second one, I thought was a good challenge. Even if it was deemed a foul, let’s say it was deemed a foul which it could be, it wasn’t a yellow card offence.

“In fact, there was only one yellow card offence from our side that I would totally agree with and that’s the one where Joachim Andersen at the end of the game gets frustrated and kicks a player from behind. That was a yellow card.”

To add insult to injury for Hodgson, regardless of his feelings on the cards his side were issued against Liverpool, Crystal Palace will now be fined by the FA for ill-discipline.

Any club that receives six or more cautions or dismissals in a game are fined by the FA, with such a total including the dugout area.

Consequently, the ECHO understands that Palace will be issued with a £25,000 fine, having received eight cards in the capital. With such a financial penalty automatic, there is no charge to answer and there will be no statement from the FA.
