Wilfried Zaha could make a shock return to Crystal Palace this summer – despite only leaving Selhurst Park in July 2023.
That is according to Graeme Bailey.
So, what is the situation involving Wilfried Zaha and Crystal Palace? Let’s take a look…
Zaha could make Crystal Palace return
Well, the Ivory Coast international left SE25 back in July 2023 after his contract expired.
Zaha opted to join Galatasaray – where he has realised his dream of playing in the UEFA Champions League – although Bailey believes there could yet be another chapter for the Ivorian at Crystal Palace.
The HITC Football journalist said: “He has played Champions League football now. That’s a box ticked in his career.
“I could see it in the summer, yeah (a return to Crystal Palace). I would be surprised if we don’t see him at Selhurst Park again.”
Zaha arguably cemented himself as the greatest footballer in Crystal Palace’s history during his time in south London, making a total of 458 appearances for the Eagles, scoring 90 goals while also providing 76 assists.
The 31-year-old has also enjoyed a decent start to life at Galatasaray, netting seven goals and setting up a further three in 23 appearances after signing a three-year contract worth £106,000-a-week.
Zaha return would be a timely boost
In our view, it would provide the fanbase with a major boost if Zaha did return to Selhurst Park.
Crystal Palace fans currently have very little to shout about amid yet another miserably dull campaign under Roy Hodgson.
Those who travelled to watch Wednesday’s 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Everton at Goodison Park could even be heard chanting against the 76-year-old after he bizarrely substituted Eberechi Eze, despite needing a goal.
Therefore, the return of Zaha – along with the appointment of a new manager this summer – would surely transform the atmosphere around the club, at a time where unrest is truly starting to set in.
