Roy Hodgson serve ultimatum after talks with ‘Club Chairman’

According to reports, Roy Hodgson will still be in charge of Crystal Palace for Tuesday’s Premier League match against Sheffield United, but his job is in jeopardy after the team’s humiliating 5-0 loss to Arsenal the previous day.

The Guardian claims that Hodgson and Palace chairman Steve Parish had a recent meeting to talk about his position. Hodgson was informed that he will probably be fired if he doesn’t turn the Eagles’ fortunes around during the next several weeks.

Following the match against Sheffield, Palace travels to play Brighton on February 3 before visiting Chelsea on February 12. During the next three games, the south Londoner’s performance will be critical in determining if Hodgson keeps his position.

Palace was easily defeated by Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday despite their lack of effort. With the Eagles already hovering dangerously near to the drop zone in the 15th, the loss sparked more doubts about Hodgson’s suitability for the position.

After the crushing loss at Arsenal, Hodgson was asked if he still had the backing of the Palace board. He said, “That’s a question for them, isn’t it? However, I can say that I have never experienced a shortage of help from them.

“They’ve been good, I believe, but now that you’re talking about this circumstance and picturing this scenario, it will be a question for them. The manager is the person who has to take accountability when a team isn’t performing up to par.
