Crystal Palace to sign wonderful gem with £57m release clause

Marcus Edwards, a winger for Sporting CP, is reportedly of interest to Crystal Palace as Oliver Glasner prepares for the summer transfer window to bolster his team.

The summer at Crystal Palace is expected to be hectic as Oliver Glasner gets ready to make adjustments to the team that he took over from Roy Hodgson last month.

The star duo of Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze are expected to leave the Eagles during the transfer window, and a lot of rumours have already started to circulate about their futures.

Nevertheless, Glasner is eager to add more talent to the team, so the South Londoners are also ready to welcome a few new players.

Crystal Palace could strengthen their attack this summer

According to reports earlier today, HITC journalist Graeme Bailey told We Are Palace that Palace wants to sign a striker in the summer and that the club is considering signing Serhou Guirassy and Eddie Nketiah.

According to recent reports, the Eagles may be tempted to expand their wide areas in addition to adding depth to the front line. Former Tottenham academy standout Marcus Edwards has been linked to a move to Selhurst.

The 25-year-old Edwards is reportedly “one of Glasner’s requests” for the upcoming season, according to reports from the Portuguese news source A Bola.

Although the manager obviously thinks highly of the Sporting CP star, there might be a small hitch because the player’s release clause is set at €60 million (£57 million), a price that could be lowered if the correct amount is offered.

What Marcus Edwards could offer to Crystal Palace

Edwards, who came up through Tottenham’s ranks, is aware of what it takes to play in England.

Since joining Sporting in 2022, the winger from London has flourished, amassing 104 appearances across all competitions and assisting on 46 goals.

The Englishman has contributed 14 goals this season, including six goals and eight assists, giving Glasner’s offence a taste of what he could be able to offer.

Talent scout Jacek Kulig once called Edwards’ style of play “wonderful.” His speed, skill, and strong outlet are comparable to Olise’s game’s strengths. Edwards’ style of play would excite Palace.

The 25-year-old, who ranks in the top 7% of wingers in Europe’s top five leagues, has averaged 5.94 progressive carries per 90 over the last year, according to FBref, demonstrating just how dangerous he can be when on the ball.

Playing mostly on the right side, the former Spurs star might be considered as an option to replace Olise should the Frenchman decide to leave the team in the summer due to a variety of offers.

There is little doubt about Edwards’ talent, so only time will tell if Glasner is serious about signing him to a Palace contract.
