Crystal Palace talisman Michael Olise is reportedly getting interest from Manchester United.
According to sources, Manchester United are negotiating a cash-plus-player trade involving Aaron Wan-Bisakka and Crystal Palace star Michael Olise.
Last Saturday, their talisman hobbled out at full-time with a hamstring injury, dealing the Eagles another setback. Olise scored twice in the game to defeat Brentford but may now miss the rest of January.
Despite playing for a team six points above the relegation zone, the 22-year-old’s reputation has improved since recovering from a prior hamstring injury. Five goals in nine games from out wide has kept Palace above the bottom three while raising questions about his future.
Eagles manager Roy Hodgson was chastised for putting him on the game against Brentford, but he said the setback was unrelated to the issue that kept Olise out for the first three months of the season. He said after the game, “This has nothing to do with the (first injury).” It’s significantly lower down [his hamstring]. It’s nowhere near where he hurt himself.
“This is not a recurring event. You’ve got to be cautious with players. You have to be more careful these days. The game has longer spells of idleness due to VAR and longer matches.
“We’re coming off a stretch where we only played three matches per week for a couple of weeks in a row, thus
Olise has been connected with United in recent weeks, but his injury history is a matter for concern. Antony has failed to justify his £85 million price tag, and Jadon Sancho is unpopular at Old Trafford.
According to The Daily Star, United would consider offering former Palace player Wan-Bissaka as part of any deal to capture Olise. The Red Devils, a boyhood admirer, signed the right-back for £50 million in 2019, but he has not developed as planned. His contract was extended by the club until the summer of 2025, therefore he will not be able to leave for free at the end of this season.
Olise’s contract includes a hefty £60 million price tag, which the story says United would wish to avoid.
