A590 in Cumbria closed in both directions after ghastly crash

After a collision, a road in Carlisle is closed in both directions.

According to our colleagues at Cumbria Road Watch, London Road is where the incident occurred.

There are emergency services on the scene.

Cumbria Road Watch reports that Warwick Road is congested and advises drivers to stay away from the area.

Following a “serious” crash on the outskirts of the Lake District, police closed a portion of the A590 in Cumbria. Following the collision between Newby Bridge and Greenodd, diversionary routes were implemented.

According to National Highways, it occurred between the A5092 and the A592, emergency personnel, including police and paramedics, had the route closed in both directions.

As significant delays were reported in the area, although detours were still in place. As of right now, no additional information has been provided regarding the vehicle or vehicles involved or the casualties.

In a preliminary update, National Highways stated: “The A590 in Cumbria is closed in both directions between the A592 (Newby Bridge) and A5092 (Greenodd) due to a serious collision. If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”

A590 is still closed while accident investigation is conducted.
For accident investigation work, the A590 between the A5092 and A592 (Newby Bridge roundabout) is still closed.
