tribute to dallas: Four Cowboys miss Wednesday practice with heavy injury blow

FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys returned to the practice field on Wednesday afternoon as they prepare for the Miami Dolphins and also look to shake off last Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills on the road.

There were only a few guys on the practice pitch when the practice week began. Some were for prearranged days off for veterans, while others, like DT Jonathan Hankins, S Malik Hooker, and OG Zack Martin, were sidelined due to injuries. Tyron Smith (OT) missed practice as well due to a back ailment.

Hankins’ prospects of playing in Miami are not good, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. Hankins missed the game in Buffalo due to an ankle injury he sustained against the Eagles.

McCarthy stated, “doing better, but he’d be hard-pressed to go this week.” “He’s a little better.”

On the team’s second possession in Buffalo, Martin was hit in the quadriceps after taking a knee to the lower thigh. Martin returned to the injury tent, claiming that he was missing the remainder of the competition because his leg “wasn’t firing” and had lost strength.

After hurting his ankle against the Eagles and skipping practice the week before the Bills game, Hooker was unable to play in Buffalo.

Both attempted to recover from their injuries in Miami on Wednesday by working with the rehab group, but they did not accomplish much more.

McCarthy stated prior to practice, “They won’t do much today because they’re both in the Wednesday group.” On the Wednesday practice report, they were both marked as DNP.

WR Brandin Cooks, CB Stephon Gilmore, DE DeMarcus Lawrence, and CB Jourdan Lewis received veteran rest days from the Cowboys.
