Broncos’ 2023 Draft Class Slammed by NFL.com After Year 1

An All-Pro was selected in the Denver Broncos’ 2023 draft class, but this is the grade NFL.com assigns?

NFL.com has been busy examining the 2023 class’s performance in the rearview mirror as we prepare for the impending 2024 draft. Chad Reuter of NFL.com wasn’t holding back when he expressed his belief that the Denver Broncos failed miserably in their recruiting attempt last season.

It’s challenging to assess the Broncos’ draft performance outside of the context of the Russell Wilson trade, in which the team had to give up two consecutive years’ worth of highly sought-after draft capital. Reuter, therefore, delivered a shocking broadside strike to the Broncos, targeting some of general manager George Paton’s lower-round misses in 2023 as well as the team’s disastrous decision to mortgage the farm in order to acquire the unimpressive Wilson.

Reuter oddly focused on rookie Marvin Mims, Jr.’s inability to produce consistently as a receiver rather than his Pro Bowl/All-Pro season as a return specialist. Remember that a draft class—especially one that is primarily devoid of premium picks—will always require additional time to be assessed more precisely.
